Dear Scouts and Families,
We're thrilled to have you join our Scouting family. Whether you're new or returning, we're eager to embark on this exciting journey together. Each Scout will be assigned to a den based on their grade, ensuring a personalized and enriching experience.
As your Cubmaster, I will lead our pack meetings and serve as the master of ceremonies. I will also be checking in with you and your dens to ensure you are fully benefiting from your Scouting experience. I hope you will take full advantage of all the meetings and outings we offer.
We are proudly chartered by the Albertville Lions Club and are part of the Northern Star Council under Scouting America. Our pack is supported by a dedicated team of adult leaders who are committed to making every activity both fun and safe. I encourage you to engage with them, as they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our pack. Familiarize yourselves with the world of Scouting. I hope your family will find the information useful and informative, but if you still have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at a pack meeting or by email.
Once again, welcome to Scouting. We look forward to sharing this incredible journey with you.
Mr. Tom Polinceusz
Cubmaster, Cub Scout Pack 547
The biggest difference is the age. Cub Scouts are in grades K-5. Where as Scouting America are scouts in 6th grade until the age of 18. Additionally in Cub Scouts, adult leaders make most decisions for Cub Scouts and run the Pack. In Scouting America, scouts run the troop, planning their meetings and events.
Scouts are assigned a den based on their grade. Den leaders then run den meetings where scouts will work on adventures, earning belt loops or pins. Adventures need to be earned to receive the rank of their den. To further explain, Kindergarteners are in the Lion’s Den and work to earn the Lion badge by completing adventures. Lions, Tigers, Wolves, and Bears earn belt loops for each adventure whereas Webelos and Arrow of Light's earn pins. Den meetings are scheduled by the den leader at least once a month from September through May.
Pack meetings are scheduled once a month by the Pack Committee and are held the third Tuesday of every month.
Events may be organized by the Pack Committee or Northern Star council.
Grades and Dens:
Kindergarteners Lions
1st gradersTigers
2nd gradersWolves
3rd gradersBears
4th graders WEBELOS (an acronym for We’ll Be Loyal Scouts)
5th graders AOLs (Arrow of Lights).
Arrow of Lights “crossover” to Scouting America at our Blue and Gold banquet in February. At that time, they are no longer considered a Cub Scout and will finish their 5th grade year as a Scouting American.
Pack 547 schedules many outdoor activities throughout the year. Some months have multiple activities. Preparation for these activities usually happens at the Committee meetings. Parents are always welcome (and usually needed) at these activities. Some activities are designed to benefit others. Those activities are called service projects and a chance for our pack to give back to the community.
Cub Scouting terminology was influenced by the Native American heritage as well as the founder of scouting, Baden-Powell, who used the framework from the classic novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling to define scouting. You will find The Jungle Book influenced many terms for the cub’s ranks as well as terms such as den, cubs, and pack. However, WEBELOS and Arrow of Light are taken from the Native American heritage. I encourage you to learn more about our strong and interesting Scouting history.
The official Cub Scout uniform, also called the "class A" uniform, consists of a short-sleeved Cub Scout shirt (with appropriate insignia)with a neckerchief and hat. The Cub Scout pants, belt, and buckle are optional. The neckerchief and hat will change with each rank.
Class B uniforms are worn in less formal situations, such as on campouts or in work situations for service projects. A Class B uniform consists of either a Pack 547 t-shirt or a scouting t shirt. Any appropriate pants and footwear can be worn. Class B uniforms can be worn to all scouting events except Pack meetings and specifically designated Class A events.
Official BSA uniforms and insignia can be purchased from various scout supply stores.
The pack calendar is on Scoutbook. Scoutbook lists all pack meetings and activities. Families can go to all activities. Signup for each activity by RSVP via Scoutbook. Please pay attention to the deadlines as some activities require payment in advance.
If you have any questions, ask your Den Leader first. They will be glad to help you. You can also ask any of the other uniformed adult leaders at pack meetings and events.
As a member of Pack 547 some things are expected of you. Basically, you are expected to:
● Have fun! ● Attend most meetings ● Participate in a majority of events ● Wear your Scout uniform at the appropriate times ● Maintain self-control and follow directions ● Show Scout spirit ● Live by the Scout Oath and Law
CHARTERED ORGANIZATION REPRESENTATIVE
Our pack operates under the Lions Club of Albertville. This allows us to be a non-profit organization, fundraising with no tax obligations. Our representative ensure that we are fulfilling our chartered organization agreement as a non-profit.
PACK COMMITTEE CHAIR
The Pack Committee Chair is appointed by the Chartered Organization to oversee the Pack Committee as they provide support to Den Leaders to ensure a quality program.
PACK COMMITTEE
Every pack has a pack committee, which consists of at least three members (chair, secretary, and treasurer). By handling administrative and support tasks, the pack committee allows the Cubmaster, den leaders, and their assistants to focus on working directly with the Cub Scouts. Leadership roles that we hold in our pack are a Popcorn Kernel, Wreath Chair, Recruitment Chair, Advancement Chair, and our Den leaders.
Scoutbook is how we keep record and accountability of our pack. You will find our calendar, your Scout’s information for advancement, Scout financial standings, and leadership contact information on Scoutbook.
